4 Anti-Inflammatory Elements to Start Eating TODAY!

The more we learn about integrating nutrition with traditional western medicine, the more opportunities we have to improve our health on a daily basis, meal by meal. That’s exciting! Here are some exciting additions you can make to your diet to start taking charge of your health today! 

1. Whole Food Snacks

Healthy snacks are a convenient way to sneak in some powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients into your diet. This recipe from Chef Jacqui Brown of KuKumos for Cinnamon Oat Nut bars gives you a boost of protein along with the anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamon (1) and nuts like almonds or walnuts. (2) 

You’ll need:

  • 2.5 cups of Oats
  • ⅔ Maple Syrup
  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Cup Flour (Sub Gluten Free if you are gluten-free)
  • Pinch of Baking Soda
  • ½ Cup Chopped Raisins
  • ½  teaspoon Salt
  • 125 ml Sunflower Oil
  • 7.5 ml Vanilla Essence
  • ½ Cup Nuts of your choice chopped
  • 30g Butter or Margarine

Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius, then grease a baking tray with the butter or margarine or line with tin foil. Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and make sure they are well combined, then pour the mixture onto the baking tray and press down firmly. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges begin to darken, and then remove, let cool and cut into bars. These are great to keep in your car or in your purse or gym bag so you can snack whenever you feel like you have a dip in blood sugar, or need some protein before a workout.

2. Start The Day Right with Juice

Juicing in the morning is a great alternative to coffee (or addition to coffee for any hardcore coffee drinkers in the house who can’t fathom giving it up!). Juicing fruits and vegetables makes them more easily digestible so you can absorb all of the nutrients they have to offer. Additionally, juicing helps you consume more vegetables as well as broadening the variety of vegetables in your diet, which can potentially help improve results with weight loss, immune function, brain health, and energy levels.   • 250 Ml Carrot Juice
  • 4 Tomatoes skinned & de-seeded
  • 1 TBsp Lemon Juice
  • 25g fresh parsley
  • 1TBsp Fresh Ground Ginger
  • 6 Ice Cubes
  • 125 ml Ice Cold Water
  • Garnish with Flat Leaf Parsley
